The Higher Certificate in Business Management (HCBM) helps you develop general management skills and prepares you for employment in junior to middle management positions. Successful HCBM candidates may apply to enrol for the second year of a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree.

This programme assists those considering a management career, or who are new to the business environment, or working in business and would like to progress to management.

The Higher Certificate in Business Management (HCBM) provides fundamental skills, knowledge and understanding to prepare you for a career in management. It also offers career opportunities for graduates by broadening their understanding of general business administration and management practices to establish and effectively manage a business.

The HCBM is an NQF level 5 (120 credits), one year qualification that develops generic management competencies and prepares students for employment in junior to middle management positions. It is offered over a minimum period of one year and a maximum of two years.

Each module requires the successful completion of an assignment and an examination. The emphasis of the module assessment is on practical application of theory.

Work readiness

Workshops and training resources on topics ranging from CV writing and interview skills, to business etiquette and networking to prepare you for your job search are available upon request. Mock interviews can also be arranged to prepare you for real interviews.

Our Leadership Conversations can link you to top business and industry leaders and show you which industries and areas are more likely to interest you.

Company Presentations and Recruitment Talks

When companies are invited to make presentations on their businesses and recruiting practices, this is a great way to learn more about different industries and specific company cultures.

Networking and Alumni Events

Having individual contacts and being in the right place at the right time often leads to job opportunities. Students are encouraged to attend off-campus networking events to meet professionals from a variety of industries. Our Alumni Committee also organises informal social functions that bring alumni and students together.
